Teaching children to use technology appropriately is not a new challenge for parenting. However, what has changed over the last two decades is the explosion of social media that aim to hook children into dopamine-fueled cycles of scrolling and sharing.

At what age should kids be on social media? Should they be on it at all? If they aren’t, will they be social pariahs? Should parents monitor their conversations? Do parental controls work? Navigating social media as a parent — not to mention a child — is not easy.

Meta is collaborating with Snap and TikTok to find new ways to prevent the distribution of self-harm content on their apps.

The proposal also would require social media platforms like Facebook, Snapchat and others to implement a usage curfew for minors.
