Strands requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns.

Connections has proved to be a firm favorite among word game fans since arriving on the scene a little over one year ago. Launched by The New York Times in June 2023, Connections now holds the distinction of being the news outlet's second most-played game—after the hugely popular brainteaser Wordle.
