In the latest development in a monthslong battle between the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union, the school board will convene for a special meeting to address the impending closures of several charter schools.

A resolution during a Board of Education meeting Thursday will demand that Acero Schools, a charter network, appear before the board on a yet-to-be-determined date to discuss alternatives to closings seven campuses.

While Johnson emphasized that he’s not saying CPS CEO Pedro Martinez did something wrong, he said the district needs to put together a “contingency plan” in response to the proposed Acero closures and that he and his team “haven’t seen that type of leadership” from the district.
