Firefighters continue to gain ground in their fight against the 39,111-acre Line Fire, which reached 49% containment Tuesday morning.

As the fast-moving Bridge Fire began destroying homes and property in the Wrightwood area, San Bernardino County leaders proclaimed an emergency.

Cal Fire said about four structures were damaged and one was destroyed based on the damage assessments so far.

A Norco man accused of deliberately igniting the 39,000-acre Line fire that forced thousands of residents of Highland and the San Bernardino Mountains to flee pleaded not guilty to nine felony arson counts on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Bridge Fire initially started 2:12 p.m. Sep. 8 in Los Angeles, San Bernardino County. After being active for 13 days, it has burned 54,877 acres, an increase of 82 acres since the last update. A fire crew of 1,910 succeeded in containing 69% of the fire by Saturday evening. Investigations into its cause are still ongoing.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. — The Line Fire, which grew slightly overnight to 60 square miles (155 square kilometers) in the San Bernardino Mountains, was 36% contained Sunday.

Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties will open joint local assistance centers to help residents recovering from the destructive Bridge and Line wildfires.

Line Fire initially started 6:33 p.m. Sep. 5 in San Bernardino County. It has burned 39,232 acres after being active for 16 days. A crew of 2,956 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 57% of the fire as of Saturday noon. The fire is suspected to have been started deliberately.
